Humankind is facing extraordinary revolutions. All our old habits, stories, beliefs, and traditions are crumbling, and no new ones have emerged so far to replace them. How can we prepare ourselves and our children for an unknown future and future world of such unprecedented transformations and radical uncertainties? Children born this year will be thirty in 2050; and if all goes well, they will still be around in 2100 and might even be contributing, global citizens of the 22nd century. What should we teach these children to help them survive and thrive in the world of 2050 or the 22nd century? What different kinds of skills will enable them to get a job, understand what is happening around them, and navigate an increasingly complex maze of life. And what can teachers do today to prepare learners for today, tomorrow, and beyond?

This provocative presentation examines the transition from times of stability to times of fundamental uncertainty; considers the unprecedented revolution of the human body thanks to bioengineering and direct brain-to-computer interfaces; and explores the implications for teaching, learning, and assessment for the near and distant future. What skills, knowledge, and habits of mind should be our focus? Prepare to have your assumptions about the yesterday, today, and tomorrow of education severely challenged. Participants will be provided with access to an extensive digital library of resources aligned to the Education in the Age of Disrupted Learning presentation.
