Workshop Description: Open Parachute is an online curriculum, created by Dr. Hayley Watson, that explores and supports mental health and has been made available for every student in our district from grades 6 to 9. There are 7 lessons for each grade on the following topics:
· Peer Dynamics (eg. Healthy friendships/boundaries/bullying)
· Awareness of cultural issues (eg. Prejudice/inequalities/power imbalances)
· Mental Health (eg. Anxiety/depression/trauma)

The curriculum is intended to boost resilience, self-awareness, and social responsibility in youth, and increase their connection and systems of support. The lessons follow the learning outcomes for the mental health component of the PHE curriculum.

Teachers who will be teaching Open Parachute are invited to attend this workshop. Other interested teachers are also welcome. It is intended to be an orientation session to explore the online resource as well as an opportunity to learn more about the content to increase comfort levels in teaching the materials.
